At the end of December 2022, I took a 7-day intensive user experience design course with General Assembly. We worked on our final projects throughout this course which was a case study on a topic of our choice. These were individual projects due to the time constraints. I chose music as my topic.
To start, I completed 5 user interviews. I drafted questions based on my hypothesis problem statement and facilitated the interviews over a span of 24-hours. I had to work quick and find willing participants fast.
With the user interview outcomes in hand, I created an affinity map to find trends. That helped me develop my problem statement and user personas. I created three user personas and focused on a single persona, Lacey, when designing.
I also completed competitor research of popular music apps and websites some of which were mentioned during the user interviews. I drafted a comparison matrix to visual see what each app/website was offering and where gaps were located.
From there, I created user flows and site map to help me see the big picture. That made creating the wireframes and prototype much easier. It also helped me choose which features to focus on. My knowledge in development also helped me stay realistic with my minimal viable product.
I was excited for the branding portion of the project, but I ended up getting sick during the holiday break and running out of time, so I didn’t get to do as much as I wanted to. I choose a color scheme and typography combo, but that’s as far I was able to go with it.
I focused most of my time left on building an interactive prototype as well as the presentation deck. I received many compliments on my deck from my classmates and instructors, so I’m glad it was time well spent.
